Why are people still racist? What science says about America'€™s race problem.

I'm actually pretty certain i know exactly how affirmative action works. In high school i had a friend who was taiwanese who scored higher on the SAT and had a better GPA then a spanish classmate. The classmate in question (don't remember exactly which country he came from) also came from a fairly affluent family. Pablo got into harvard, Jim got into UVA.

Not a bad school, and present day he's an anesthesiologist so it's not like this was some mortal blow to his life, but please believe he complained bitterly about it, and it's difficult to see how it's fair to allow admissions criteria to center around race, even in the name of correcting past wrongs.

If you listen to a program on NPR, where they talk about AA, and you hear them talk about how many of these kids have "common stories" based on their college admission essays... do the people making these decisions even understand what the fuck they are doing to people in the name of assuaging their guilt?

You can't make the game of life "more fair" by injecting unfairness at a later date to make up for the unfairness experienced earlier on. The ham-fisted nature of systemized processes are garaunteed to cause more harm when applied in this way. Correcting the unfairness is to much like federalizing the currently state-run school system, which would make things more bureaucratic and inefficient but is probably the only way to get money for things like kindergarten, head-start programs, reduced class sizes, and so on for the communities that lack the tax base to do these things for themselves. And we know the useless fucking administrators always gobble up the cash first.

But AA doesn't cost a dime, and it definitely does benefit some minorities who get into college period, just at the expense of integrity.

If your end goal looks something like "a society where the realization of human potentials are maximized" i don't think AA is the way to get there.
