Why are rural areas Republican and urban areas Democrat?

What resources am I using in greater quantity than you?

Probably very few because we're both rural, which means we both have energy intensive lifestyles.

I cut my own firewood. Chainsaws take way more than 5 gallons to cut a year's worth of wood, but that's not really the point -- high energy costs will also make your other resources sky rocket. Things like feed and fertilizer are primarily petroleum products. And lets not forget things break. Maintenance and parts all take energy to get. They're not just waiting for you.

I highly doubt you're as self contained as you imagine, and it's hard to say how off the grid you are, but that's really just a small version of Elon Musk's panic mansion in New Zealand.

That's not "self reliance," it's just having enough money to afford a solar powered lifestyle in the sticks.

At some point all this cheap energy is going to run low, and while you might have spent your money on solar power and water purification, your neighbors who spent theirs on truck accessories are going to get hungry and thirsty too, and then it'll be real apparent how precarious rural life is for anyone who isn't a subsistence farmer.
