Why are serial killers so intriguing?

Here's an analogy.

"Serial killing" is like taking a piss, it's natural. Now let's say a rule comes out that peeing is illegal(let's pretend for a sec that lack of peeing is not unhealthy). The urge to pee is still there, you are just not allowed to. Same way with killing, it's illegal to kill people, lots of us still have those urges, only a few act upon them and people are intrigued by it because they have either fantasized about it or maybe even thought about doing. Lots of serial killers read about previous serial killers themselves.
