Are there any myths about america that you'd like to debunk?

I wanted to mention the subject of indigenous folks, so I’ll stick it here!

I’ve seen multiple people seem confused or maybe disappointed that so many natives where I’m from are white in skin tone, driving SUVs and rocking the same clothes as the evil white man. Especially visitors from overseas. I get it, because of the media. Showing the actual integration of a culture is boring, so characters are often an exaggeration (not to say some proud natives don’t still dress the part in public, but this is not typical). If you want to really immerse yourself in the traditional stuff, contact a tribal heritage/cultural center or simply Google gourd dances and pow wows for that calendar year to see if one will be in the area you’re visiting. This is where you’ll hear the powerful songs and see the traditional regalia. Most public ones will advertise they are public. Then try to get in contact with the coordinator listed and see if they have time to answer any of your questions about traveling to the area- don’t be shy, they may love to have you as a guest!
