Are there Elves (or a equivalent race) in your world? Why?

The Vannar in my world can be described as "Elf-Like", though at the same time I think they are also foils to typical Elfs. They are a proud race that live primarily in dense forests, where they make elegant houses made of wood around giant trees. They are quick and nimble, are considered to be highly intelligent, and make for invaluable scouts, spies, and intellectuals. Like many Elven stereotypes, the Vannar have a predisposition to be a very vain and pretentious people, and many consider themselves to be much more "bright" than other peoples.

However, in contrast, they are rather quite short, standing at around 5 foot 4 on average give or take, and live very short lives as a result of very high metabolism, making them average merely 35-40 year lifespans at most. Despite their short height, they are neither stocky nor wide, and have to rely on speed and agility as a result of weaker physiques. They seem to possess no natural affinity for magic, and possession of it appears to be rather rare among the Vannar, though they make for quick learners. Their ears are notably rounded (not furry) rather than pointed, their hair is incredibly curly, and their eyes are wide and round. Despite their feeling of superiority, the Vannar feel a strong sense of solidarity amongst themselves, are quite sedentary, and have physiological imprints during their youth that make them impressionable to those they grew up with.
