Are these the fundamentals of nutrition?

Have the right amount of calories each day

Calories aren't important at all. It's the food you're eating thats important.

Eat a balanced amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates

Eat what you need. Enjoy food, the right food, and as long as you're eating a varied diet, you're body will take care of the rest.

Don’t eat too much sugar (refer to rule #2)

Clarification on sugar....natural sugar in fruit etc is GOOD - it comes with antioxidents, vitamins and FIBER, wonderful, glourious fiber. It's refined sugar that you want to avoid.

Don’t eat transfat or too much Saturated fat (refer to rule #2)

Agreed. You can actually avoid it altogether although life and food is about fun as well, so whats the point?

Get the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals.

Get more than the recommended amount. Stuff your face with vegetables and fruits and enjoy it. The recommended amount is a minimum.

I'd like to add something to this list as well

Exercise. Just a bit, every day.

It's vital to a healthy life and nutritional values just don't work without it.
