"You are who you're owned by - Jed York, Trent Baalke, and the 49ers’ prolonged run of bad news, major losses, and invisible leaders" - rarely agree with Kawakami but he makes a valid point here.

Tim Kawakami usually makes more sense than he does here. This article makes no real sense.

He's attempting to tie Aldon Smith being an alcoholic to the ouster of Jim Harbaugh. That's it, and that's all. He clearly states at the top of the article that he's not tying it to any of the other departures. But he later brings all that stuff back in even though he's already clearly stated that he doesn't think that those things are related. "This whole collection of things–all the way through York and Trent Baalke’s handling of Aldon Smith’s troubles and then ultimately his release last week–is just the accumulated mess, happening in monthly or weekly intervals now."

Monthly or weekly intervals? What are you talking about? You're talking about two incidents. But by using the term "monthly or weekly intervals" he's attempting to merge this with all the other things that have happened. All those things he said were unrelated.

For the record, I completely agree that York was wrong in the way he dealt with Harbaugh. Not that he went in another direction, I think that it is clear that a different direction was going to be needed in this case, but it was a slimy move to dump a bunch of toxic stuff at Harbaugh from week one through week 17 with a bunch of unsourced and unnamed "leaks". The same thing happened to Singletary, and it has to stop. York needs to put his big boy pants on and start dealing with his coaching staffs like they are humans. Stop being a fucking coward, Jed.

But it's a spurious link that because Jed handled the PR leaks on Harbaugh so poorly that Aldon Smith decided that being an alcoholic was a great idea. What type of logic is that? Who thinks Aldon Smith became a serial drunk driver because Jed York needs work on his vote of confidence game?

Finally, the rest of the article devolves into Tim Kawakami bitching that Trent Baalke didn't show up for a presser. Jeez, sorry Tim. Ultimately it was much more important that Tomsula be the guy. Have you watched that announcement? It was handled extremely well. For the first time since his hiring, Tomsula became something more than the butt of a joke. He took the reigns of the franchise, and course corrected more deftly than either Jed or Trent ever have, and in doing so, he legitimized himself for a lot of people. Possibly a lot of people in the locker room. Jim Tomsula handling this on his own was the most important and smartest decision in the past year.
