Arizona Atheist Lawmaker Stands Up To Christian Bully

That doesn't mean what you think it means.

The words "separation of church and state" don't appear anywhere in the constitution. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Is the exact line referencing law and religion.

That law only applies to enforcing a religious belief upon others through government. If you are a religious senator and you make a law out of your religious beliefs and morals that's fine. It's up to the constituents to elect leaders to espouse their beliefs and morals.

People confuse this all the time.

I'm all for making government more secular but let's use logic and fact and accuracy in our arguments.

Statements regarding separating the state and the church historically in the US were actually established to protect religious freedom from government overreach, fearing religious persecution as was common in other nations at the hands of other governments, not the other way around.

Religion can be your guiding principle as a legislator. There is no rule against that and separation of church and state does not prohibit that. It does prohibit the pope from walking into Congress and establishing laws, it also prohibits one legislator from one religion making laws against or prohibiting other religions from practicing.
