Armada won't be playing Melee Singles at Dreamhack Austin

Armada,

Every one knows you are the BOAT. It isn't even debatable by any quantifiable metric.

However, part of your legacy is your fanbase. This does a huge disservice to all of them. Truly, all melee fans. Maybe you truly don't enjoy melee without a perfect controller. But do you also enjoy letting down all your fans? Honestly, it seems selfish and childish and it is hard to imagine any high level athlete doing similarly...or at least not being excoriated for doing so. I suppose this is a good reminder that we ultimately all enjoy watching and playing a children's party game. But you've made this your profession, your career, your sport, so we expect more from you. Whether you asked for it or not, that is the reality. Are you just playing a game, or is this your life and profession. There is no denying your passion and commitment, but I think that is why there is so much backlash to your decision. With expectations can come disappointment.

Dropping for this seems uncompetitive; which definitely isn't you. Yet, you won't compete unless conditions are perfect? Life isn't always perfect. Michael Jordan put up an incredible performance in an NBA final game (one of the most important basketball games of his career) with the Flu. Show some perseverance. Shit, Mango just won doubles with less than ideal conditions (largely his own doing...which is a whole other issue).

Of course, your choices are your own and your right. But as a figurehead of the scene, they impact many, and I think that should be considered more. Little kids trying to downsmash their way into success will make similar Johns or excuses to not try. It is soft.

We all hope you get those perfect conditions and controller you need. We also hope to see you play through some less than ideal situations.

Again, it is your decision and your right. But I hoped to put you in our shoes for a moment, which I don't think is unfair for you to consider.
