Artisans, Craftsmen, Small-Batch Makers - what was 2022 like for you?

• I’m not an artist but my father is. He is 77 yo professional painter. He always been an artrepreneur as well and his passion for art has never stopped. After covid started I made him an Etsy shop, 2021 went well for us but 2022 he got cancer and he had alot of treatments but he continued to work during his chemo! We raised our prices as he couldn’t fulfill orders as he did before.

• The revenue was down 50% YoY. Primarily due to price increase and being inactive on the platform

•$20k.

•We sell made to order paintings. We accepted commissions as well.

•Selling art online is very competitive and unpredictable. Some months you do well others you barely get a sale. We sell only on Etsy and we don’t market outside of Etsy.

•We learned that we need to price our paintings well. Don’t underestimate how much fees and costs you will have.

Overall, although we don’t make much, it’s a great side hustle that taught me a good lessons and most importantly it kept my father’s mind busy during his battle.
