[Ask] How do you keep a clan alive?

I don't have any advice, but just some observations.

I'm in a system of about 10 clans based out of another forum. 4-5 serious, higher levelled war clans that consistently perform, 3-4 that do well but are more casual with a lower war frequency and a snooze clan for people to park while they're taking breaks or are bound by Royal upgrades.

When I was a TH8 a few of us reformed one of the clans due to a leader that went MIA. Myself and another guy spent six months leading it, setting up rules, etc. We did well, and were something like 28-4. Everyone was happy, and then opt-outs happened.

It completely broke that group. Almost overnight we had a third of our best participants taking breaks, which cost us several wars in a row. Seeing that much red in the war log made people opt-out for longer and longer periods, and those that were warring got sick of hemmoraging resources for armies they wouldn't recover. A half dozen of us out of 40+ were donating more than the rest combined.

I eventually turned over leadership and left. I got a lot of shit for it, but over the next few weeks noticed more and more members dispersing until the clan wasn't even recognizable. At this point it still exists with about 35 members, but their wars are maybe once a week with 10 people and are always losses. Once a clan starts with the negative momentum it's hard to change anything, because most players are somewhat fair weather and lose interest.

I guess the point to this rambling is that sometimes a clan isn't worth saving. I don't know what your recruiting methods are, but if general chat is part of it you're fighting an uphill battle. Players have a lot of choices in where they go and how they participate, and if you aren't successfully turning the tide it might be time to look elsewhere.
