Ask a Knitter - February 13, 2018

I'm trying to draft my own vintage style sweater pattern, but there are limits to how much fabric can stretch. I was figuring out my armholes and trying to figure out the bust area. Can I do short rows over a short height to account for a lot of projection? Like, 36" waist (with less negative ease cause I'm fat) to a 44" bust over like, 3" vertically. (I'm actually more like 46" but negative ease to draw the eye is the look I'm after here) and then back down for my tiny little shoulders (14" across).

I've knit exactly 1 sweater but I'm not going to bother knitting sweaters I don't love, so, will my theory of knitting to fit my waist and shoulders with a short row bust section work? Can I just make like a heel flap for my boobs?

Should I just cry and pay someone else to resize a vintage pattern for me?

Are there any free in depth resources on fitting/pattern writing or do I have to suck it up and buy a class on craftsy?
