Asked how my brother is going to get through this phase of his life. Any interpretations welcome

Thank you! Not presumptuous at all :)

Is it bad luck to do a reading for someone else who didn't ask for it? I wasn't going to tell him what I saw/read, this was mainly for my own peace of mind.

My interpretation is very close to yours. I figured the appearance of all the swords means he's stuck in his own head right now, and his thoughts are on an endless loop. Hopefully the 6 of swords means moving away from emotional turmoil towards a more peaceful and stable place.

In the far away past, he may have gone through some trauma in relation to waiting for things to come to fruition and this has contributed to his subconscious state of the fear of waiting. Patience is key.

This is completely on point!

I figured the page of wands is all about his family being naive to the situation or the outcome. The King of Swords (which I see as "a judge") is his hopes and fears for the outcome of the court date - whether he goes to prison or back to the hospital.

Overall outcome is Strength - whatever lessons he learns, it will be one where he learns compassion, forgiveness and how to hold back and tame his emotions.

Forgiveness is something I've been talking to him about a lot lately. He needs to forgive himself (for what lead to the situation and for hurting someone close to him), so hopefully this reading pans out that way.
