so... they asked me if I want to be a 204b and perhaps get certified as a supervisor down the road. What are you guys' thoughts/experiences? is it worth it?

We have a lot of 204b's in our office. It's practically a revolving door, and I've talked with a few of them extensively. I personally would never do it just because I could never mistreat craft workers as part of my job duties, but beyond that the experiences of those 204b's would keep me from doing it too.

One was removed because he wasn't mean enough, one was removed because he was too friendly with carriers, one stepped down because he refused to sign off on year-old documents that could have potentially incriminated him if found fraudulent by inspectors, one had issues with his clock times being modified every week to fraudulently remove penalty overtime, etc. Not to mention the obvious issues of being required to PDI and discipline people over literally anything, including scapegoating obviously innocent employees, answering to a belligerent upper management, violating the contract, threatening employees with punishment for resisting forced OT on N/S days when they have serious plans, and the list goes on.

It may be different in other offices, and I've heard of some of those offices that sound like paradise in contrast to mine, but management in my experience has been dreadful for both those underneath it as well as those 204b servants that get rotated out regularly.
