ACT I
INT. EMBER'S INN - DAY
The inn is bustling with activity
as villagers go about their business. In the corner, Rand al'Thor sits at a
table with his friends Matrim Cauthon and Perrin Aybara. They are deep in
conversation.
Rand: (singing) I'm stuck in a rut,
my friends / I'm caught up in a maze / I'm in love with a girl / But I'm not
sure if she feels the same
Mat, a tall and handsome man with a
quick smile, leans in to listen.
Mat: (singing) It's plain as day,
my friend / You're in love, that's all / You just have to tell her how you feel
/ And hope she doesn't stall
Perrin, a burly man with golden
eyes, nods in agreement.
Perrin: (singing) But beware, my
friend / The society has rules / Men and women aren't supposed to be together /
Until they're married, that's the rule
Rand: (singing) I don't care about
the rules / I'm willing to take the risk / For the chance to be with Egwene /
I'm going to ask her to marry me
Mat and Perrin: (singing) That's
bold, my friend / But we'll support you no matter what / Good luck on your
quest for love
Rand: (singing) Thank you, guys /
I'm going to need all the luck I can get / Wish me luck on my great hunt for
love
Cut to:
INT. EGWENE'S HOME - DAY
Egwene is in her bedroom, sitting
at her dressing table and brushing her hair. She looks lost in thought.
Egwene: (singing) I'm stuck in a
rut, my dear / I'm caught up in a maze / I'm in love with a boy / But I'm not
sure if he feels the same
She stands up and begins to pace
the room.
Egwene: (singing) The society has
rules / And I don't want to break them / But at the same time / I don't want to
be without him
She sits back down at the dressing
table, deep in thought.
Cut to:
INT. EMBER'S INN - DAY
Rand is at the inn, sitting at the
same table as before. Mat and Perrin are with him.
Rand: (singing) I've made up my
mind / I'm going to ask Egwene to marry me / I don't care about the rules / I'm
willing to take the risk for her
Mat: (singing) Are you sure you
want to do this, Rand? / It's not going to be easy / But we'll support you no
matter what
Perrin: (singing) He's right, Rand
/ The society is very strict / You could get in a lot of trouble / But we
believe in you
Rand: (singing) Thank you, guys /
I'm going to need all the support I can get / Wish me luck on my great hunt for
love
Cut to:
INT. EGWENE'S HOME - DAY
Egwene is sitting at her dressing
table, lost in thought. She looks up as she hears a knock at the door.
Egwene: (singing) Who could that be
at my door? /I'm not expecting anyone / Maybe it's Rand / Come to tell me how
he feels
She gets up and opens the door, to
find Rand standing there.
Rand: (nervously) Egwene, I-I have
something important to ask you.
Egwene: (surprised) What is it,
Rand?
Rand: (singing) Egwene, I love you
/ More than anything in this world / And I want to spend the rest of my life
with you / Will you marry me?
Egwene: (tearfully) Rand, I love
you too / And I want to spend the rest of my life with you / Yes, I will marry
you
Rand and Egwene embrace, as the
villagers in the inn look on in amazement.
Mat and Perrin: (singing)
Congratulations, Rand and Egwene / We're so happy for you both / May your love
last forever / And may you live happily ever after
The villagers join in the song, as
Rand and Egwene share a passionate kiss.
Suddenly, a messenger arrives with
a stack of telegrams. He hands them to Egwene and Rand, who are surprised and
touched to see that they have received congratulatory messages from their
friends in the Borderland, Caemlyn, the Waste, and even Shayol Ghul.
ACT II
But as the excitement of their
engagement subsides, Egwene begins to have doubts. She realizes that she is not
truly in love with Rand, and that her feelings for him are not as strong as she
thought. She confides in her best friend, Nynaeve, at the village market.
Nynaeve, a strong-willed woman with
piercing blue eyes, listens intently as Egwene pours out her heart.
Nynaeve: (singing) Egwene, what's
wrong? / You don't seem happy about your engagement / Is something bothering
you?
Egwene: (singing) Nynaeve, I've
been thinking / And I don't think I'm truly in love with Rand / I care about
him, but I don't know if I love him / What am I going to do?
Nynaeve:(singing) Egwene, you have
to be honest / With yourself and with Rand / It's not fair to either of you /
To be in a relationship that's not based on true love
Egwene: (singing) You're right,
Nynaeve / I need to tell Rand how I feel / But I don't want to hurt him / What
if he doesn't understand?
Nynaeve: (singing) Egwene, you have
to take the risk / For the sake of your own happiness / And for the sake of
your relationship with Rand / Trust me, it will be worth it in the end
Egwene takes Nynaeve's advice and
confronts Rand about her feelings at the village inn. Rand is hurt and confused
at first, but eventually he comes to understand and accept Egwene's honesty.
Rand: (singing) Egwene, I'm sorry /
If I did something to make you doubt your feelings for me / I never meant to
hurt you / And I want you to be happy, even if it's not with me
Egwene: (singing) Rand, it's not
your fault / I was the one who wasn't honest with myself / And I'm sorry for
hurting you / But I know now that our love is not true
Rand: (singing) Egwene, I
understand / And I want you to be happy / Even if it's not with me / I'm going
to let you go, with my love and my blessings
Egwene: (singing) Rand, thank you /
For understanding and accepting my feelings / I will always cherish the time we
spent together / And I wish you the best on your journey
As Rand and Egwene go their
separate ways, they both struggle to come to terms with their new reality. Egwene
finds comfort in her close relationships with Nynaeve and her other friends,
while Rand turns to his friends Mat and Perrin for support.
