Asked by the prof if there were any veterans in the class he said “sorta...jrotc for a few years”

I had a friend like this, super into the military, back around 2005 so we were both in our early 20s. He slapped an Operation Iraqi Freedom sticker on his car along and an ARMY bumper sticker -- though he never claimed to be a vet, it was all obviously implied. He'd say the stickers were to honor his dad who was an Army reservist... His dad also went to Kuwait or some place like that for several months, so he brought back one of those War on Terrorism hats, and this kid set it under the back window of his car. When I teased about it, he'd say all the military flair was so people wouldn't tailgate him... which I think did work, but I doubt that was his only motive.

A couple of years later, I ended up joining the military and he didn't. Weird how things worked out.

Can't fault him too badly for being a young doofus, though. He's all grown up now and doesn't do shit like that anymore.
