AskScience AMA Series: I'm Dr. Kaeli Swift, and I research corvid behavior, from funerals to grudges to other feats of intellect. Ask me anything!

Hi, Dr swift.
As a child I was decently bright.
I could do arithmetic in my head, and I could look at license plates and remember them instantly. If I read something, I knew it.

However when I hit 18 the gears started grinding, and I would get brain fog, (I didn't know it back then) It was not due to drink and drugs.

I have 3 theories, and I was hoping to find out if you have ever heard of this problem, and if any of my ideas could fit.

1) My mother was abusive, and isolated me, and she would induce fear and anxiety in my soul. It is possible the chronic stress melted my brain.

2) I gained a lot of weight at 18-23, Could cholesterol deposits reduce blood flow to my brain, It is well known that dementia is actually caused by the slow death of brain cells due to clogged blood vessels.

3) I suffered from sleep apnoea, I would wake up with headaches and out of breath and that went on for a long time.

I am really sad, because I understand how dumb I am now, And it pisses me off how ignorant dumb people are. Is there any way I could snatch back my brilliance? Its gotten to the stage where I have become a mouth breather, and I actually have to think to breathe, If I'm thinking on a task I'm not breathing, if I'm breathing I'm not thinking of the task. it is one or the other.

In the UK the gps are useless, and are not referring me, I am now worried a tumor has been slowly growing in my brain.

Damn, you have a lot of comments to get through! notice me senpai!
