Do Aspies Downplay Their Obsessions Once They’ve Passed?

I don't think this is an aspie thing. It's really easy to forget what love feels like. Love is not something that can be explained, it can only be felt. If you can't explain it, that is to say, put it into words, then it cannot be remembered.

Try explaining how love feels to someone who has never been in love. It just doesn't work.

In your situation, I would guess that he truly doesn't remember how he felt before. Especially as love isn't some kind of scale. "I love you more than I've loved anyone" for example. It's nice for a emo song, but it just doesn't work like that in real life.

What's important, and what you should concentrate on is that there is love happening now. Love that can't be explained, or remembered - so enjoy it. Don't try and hold on to it, or you'll crush it.
