Assassin's Apprentice Read Along

If you are just now reading Assassins Apprentice you are in for a rare experience. While reading this first of a lifetime of books filled with rich characters navigating a world that will make you think it is all possible, you will never regret starting with this first gem. It is important to read the detail as this is setting the stage and the base of the characters in such subtle ways that you may not know the connections for many books to come. This is a story you’ll want to begin with no distractions on a hot summer day or a cold rainy afternoon. I love the fact that we get to know the characters in this first book from the youngest beginnings. Like watching our own children grow and evolve, so you will feel with the young boy you’ll discover upon opening the book. I began reading this when it first came out, many years ago. I awaited every new book with anticipation. I read up to The Fool’s Errand and The Live Ship Trilogy before life, work, kids weren’t allowing much reading and I lost track of Robin’s creations for many years. I was able to resume reading and was delighted to discover Robin had been very busy advancing the series. I read the Rain Wild Chronicles, and then (separate series) I read the Soldier Son books. At this point it had been years and even decades since I had read The Assassins Apprentice so I went back an reread the series before continuing on to read The Tawny Man Trilogy. I felt like I had not remembered it at all! I was amazed at how much I didn’t understand having read it so long ago. Since that then I have reread the series prior to reading each new book that was released. Typically rereading it once a year. When I would finish the latest book, I would count the months for the new release so I could anticipate rereading again soon! I would not be exaggerating to say I’ve reread this whole series at least 10 times. So worth it!

"Spoilers"

>! I continued my rereading until reading the final book in the series Assassin’s Fate. This was such a blow and disappointment I was devastated by the ending and the lack of depth in the book and its characters in this one, so unlike a Robin Hobb book. I felt it was just a way to ‘wrap it up’. End it. I’m hoping if I wait many years and go back maybe I read it wrong the first time? Maybe I missed something? Sorry Robin, I love you, still do. I am so grateful for the years you’ve provided this fabulous and wonderful world and characters. I hope I can bring myself to reread again knowing what I’ll find at the end. ☹ !<
