Assassin's Creed: My "essay" on failure and one of the best games of the 00's

I have never been so disappointed in a series as I have with Assassin's Creed.

I first heard if the game after downloading the trailer from the PSN. It looked classy, and unique, so I went ahead and bought it.

I fell in love with it immediately. It was an open world Prince of Persia with interesting lore, a brilliant setting and with beautiful art direction. The gameplay was like no other. The climbing felt great, climbing huge towers actually made you afraid of falling.

As everyone else, I was excited for the sequel. The simple element of being able to swim was like a huge step-up from the original game.

The sequel was so much more engaging than the first. You actually had progression with characters that you knew their names and cared about. The Renaissance story was emotional and thrilling, and the present-day story felt like it was leading somewhere interesting.

Brotherhood came out and it was more of the same, slightly improved. Who can complain, though? It was great to have some more Assassin's Creed.

I stopped playing for a while when Revelations was announced. It felt like the story was starting to drag. I got around to playing it in 2013, though.

It was good. Only good.

Unlike the former two games, I wasn't excited to 100% it, it wasn't as interesting as the other two games in terms of characters and setting.

On to ACIII.

Unlike most people, I actually really enjoyed this game. The engine was greatly improved. All of the quirks of the former games were gone, with fluid gameplay and some exciting visuals.

It was obvious they tried the same formula as ACII with the story, and for the most part it didn't work. But the visuals, and the setting was beautiful. Unlike Revelations, the story was a nice ride.

Then came on the ending. They ruined five games of development when it came to Desmond's story. Everything you went through with the other games was all for a pointless apocalypse story. It was terrible, I have never been so incredibly disappointed with a story before.

I bought Black Flag, and I haven't come around to playing it yet. They ruined all they had done with Desmond in favor of staying in their comfort zone.

I see no reason to come back at this point. The ending of that game is when the series finally lost the last piece of its heart.
