[Assassins Creed Origins] apologies for the quality of the picture. this game hasn’t gotten enough appreciation. what you see in this picture is completely explorable. and it couldn’t be more than 5% of the entire map. Origins is proof to me that a developer can learn and grow from their mistakes.

the last AC game i played was Unity. while being floored at how beautiful it looked, i couldn’t help but be so bored at now cookie cutter it was. the lengthier development time did wonders for this series. not only does it fire on all cylinders regarding visuals, it has managed to (in my opinion) take the top spot for me in terms of capturing a living and breathing world. i realise this is quite a bold statement, but i’d argue that this game gives RockStar a run for its money. there is just a ridiculous amount to do. the side missions alone can steal hours and hours of your time. and what’s more important, they are not at all what you expect from an AC game. all the side missions are different, and contain multiple adjectives. from somebody who has been a long time gamer, recently experiencing fatigue in gaming. this experience is a breath of fresh air. for once in a very long time, the $80+ i spent for this game was more than worth it. the team also has made leveling up much more deeper and engaging. enemies as well have levels and it’s very fun to explore the world and try your hand at combating high ranking enemies. weapons have never been more important in this series till now. there is always a drive to search the land for the best weapon. just when you think you’ve found something you can commit to, you all of a sudden switch gears when you kill a high ranking enemy and pick up his weapon to find it has better stats. the combat has dropped its simple “press triangle to counter and kill in one hit”. its honestly more comparable to something like Dark Souls. there is actual gratification in beating a tough opponent. id never thought i’d say this, but as a console only gamer, Origins is the best thing closest to an rpg i’ve played in years
