What is it about people and mental health where they assume people are obligated to give a fuck?

It is a good thing that some people care about strangers and their issues, but that doesn't give them a shred of authority to point to other people and say, "You too must care about this issue!"

I am big into genocide and human rights prosecutions. There are genocidaires walking free right now. Crimes against humanity are taking place all over the world and the criminals walk free. Thats what I care about. But that doesn't mean I have to expect everyone else to give a shit about Sudan, Burma, Iraq, etc. It is unrealistic and childish to expect people to empathize with something just because its worthy of empathy. Empathy takes time. Time to give a shit. And plenty of people would rather spend their time walking their dog back to their apartment, and not trying to empathize with some crazy bike-wielding lunatic.
