Assisting someone coming out of hospital for pancreatitis?

This also is not herbal, but depending on her ability to manage blood sugar, look into getting a juicer and doing fruit/veg juices. They're exceptionally nutritious, easy to digest, and will get her the micronutrients she's probably needing very badly, especially since drinkers tend not to eat well and she probably didn't have the best health to start with.

If you do this, try to major in veg and minor in fruit with each juice you make. A recipe like this one is a great example of how to mix the two, and it's actually really good. A juice doesn't have to taste like lawn clippings. As many as you can make and she can drink, daily.

Another thing to do is make a big batch of bone broth (the fat can be strained if necessary) and make sure she gets a cup down the hatch every day. Ditto on the benefits: easily digested, incredibly nutritious, and very restorative. Home made is infinitely better than store bought, and freezes well too, so she need never be without something nutritious and heartening to eat in the house.

I know you're looking for herbs, but honestly a healthy, balanced diet that's heavy on the nutrients and easy to digest is going to be of much greater assistance, and the strong foundation for recovery from which you can then add helpful herbs.

Additionally, post-pancreatitis there are some things that are just poison to eat, and I'm sure her doctor has gone over these with her. No, it's not easy or fair, but if she wants to get better then she should know that every single thing she puts in her mouth counts, and will for weeks to months to come depending on the damage.

Source: have had multiple bouts of gallstone related pancreatitis. (Mine were horrible, but she probably has more permanent damage because of the alcohol, to be honest.) Juices and bone broth plus as much of a whole/unprocessed food diet as I could manage were truly the best, got me on my feet the fastest, and you don't have to worry about being in excruciating pain two hours later with either one of them: bonus. I can't recommend them enough.

P.S. This website helped me a LOT. It's extremely strong on the religious vibe, but if you can get past that the info is really good and he's not trying to sell anything, just a guy who's lived with pancreatitis for 40 years and figured out what actually works. Good luck to you both.
