Atheism and Religion are but two sides of the same coin.

However, we do not live our lives as though a god does exist because there is also not enough information to suggest that one does or to convnice us that one does.

Why does living our lives as though one exists show our stance on the issue? What if I believe a god exists but I also believe that he fucked off after creating humans. What if I believe a god exists but I refuse to worship it, and choose to live a life where I am kind to others because that's how I want to be and hope the god judges me on how I lived not on how I worshiped?

If I tell you that I have a purple unicorn in my garage that is only visible to me

Terrible example because you could be hallucinating. But I know the point your trying to make, and I responded in detail to someone else about something similar, but I'll sum it up as, as people, we know what we can know. We are aware of our limited technology and capabilities. We could never prove there is a god or provide evidence against it. Say you told me there was a purple unicorn in your garage that is also tangible, but only for you. I could provide ample evidence to disprove that, we could never know of course, but I could provide evidence against it in spades based on our definitive knowledge of the universe. I could never do that for a god.
