Putting my 2cents.

Religion isn't a line or a graph. It's very dynamic based on faith. Most religions, yes even christians, the religious texts is purposely ambiguous or there are different versions. There are two different creation stories, there are 4 different books with different perspectives on jesus, etc. Most Famously, buhdaism when evidence proves them wrong...they change.

It when people change reality to fit their faiths instead of faith changing to fit reality is when we have problems.

This is DnD, so there is a lot more evidence that gods truly exist.

For DnD Faith is more of a trustfall or belief in the message. Your god can literally move mountains, or in unity's case bring two parties together as one. Gods in DnD are not omniscience, infallible, and they can make mistakes. They do their best because it's their job or "role" in the pantheon that they are in. Your Cleric is doing their best to help. You can go crazy where people must shake hands, you can go semi crazy where it's 100% always better to shake hands but if they don't that's why bad things happening, be normal and acknowledge that maybe Death and Love shouldn't be together, etc.
