Athersys at Meeting on the Mesa Oct 5th

I said months ago I would love to see Athersys partner with Gilead. Its huge Kite buy may keep that from happening. But then, GILD still is a strong company financially, and the fact of Kite could signal a move that it wants to become as sweeping and cutting edge biotech as never seen before. I am long Gilead and Athersys. Just a lot more Athersy shares. GILD returns about 2.65% in dividends which it increases annually, and with a pps that has steadily risen over the past 6 months, after bottoming out because its Hep-C drug had stiffening competition. A Gilead buyout or partnership where it takes a huge stake would not be the end of the world for Athersys longs. However, the prospective mass riches would not be there. Rarely do gamblers win the jackpot. But a long, steady, growing payout from the buyer could be nice too, and would make the ATHX investment a success -- just not a retirement plan for most. Hell, if Gilead wants to buy for a mix of cash and shares, I'm in.

And if GILD wanted to give us some share and cash in a buyout, I'd probably be quite happy -- just not announcing my retirement.
