Athletes are making millions of dollars by hurling a ball around a stadium. Meanwhile, healthcare workers are saving people's lives and are barely scraping by.

That's a meaningless argument. Skill is relative and even within the professional leagues there is a spectrum of relatively shitty players and relatively exceptional players. There are significantly more than 2000-3000 potential professional baseball, basketball, football, etc. players in the US that could put on an entertaining and skilled display of sportsmanship. There are only 800 or so MLB players in the country because there are only 800 or so slots, not because only 800 people in the entire country have enough skill and talent to play at a competitive and entertaining level. Arguing that they should be paid millions a year because "only 800 people can do it!" is ridiculous.
