Atlas Reactor Trailer

People simply don't understand language.

Get your head out your ass man. People who would argue that it's not a moba or that zelda isn't a JRPG or that Binding of Isaac isn't a rogue like know exactly how language works.

Yes. Language evolves. That's the great thing about lanuage.

But here's the thing. Language has the ability to be able to deliver precise ideas. We don't have to make everything vague. We can even create new words.

JRPG meaning a game with turn based menu based fighting is more useful than meaning an RPG from japan. FF7 and Chrono Trigger have more in common than Darksouls and Chrono Trigger.

MOBA meaning a dota like is more useful. DoTA 2 and League of Legends have way more in common than Atlas Reactor and League of Legends.

Dungeon Craw Stone Soup and Rogue have way more in common than Binding of Isaac and Rogue.

It's not that language shouldn't evolve. It's that language can evolve to be more precise and make it easier to find what you're looking for.

If I'm looking up JRPG, MOBA, Roguelike, etc. I would prefer it to be a useful descriptor for what I'm looking to play. I don't want 9 billion sub sub genres. If your "JRPG" plays more like Geometry Wars it's more useful to categorize it as a twin stick shooter even if you get experience points and can upgrade your weapons. Say it has RPG elements.

If your "Roguelike" plays like super mario and nothing like rogue, say that it's a platformer with permadeath and random level generation.

When I search for JRPG, I'm not looking for a platformer. When I search for roguelike I'm not looking for an action game. ETC ETC.

Yes. Language evolves, but we can make it evolve to actually be useful.

Dogs are a product of evolution but we can still breed cute ones.
