Do audiobooks count as reading? / Do audiobooks count as books?

You cannot say 'I read an audiobook.' without obliterating all meaning words have.

It's obvious that it 'counts' as consuming a book, and anyone who disputes this is an idiot, but you can't use the verb 'to read' to describe the way you consume it in, you would need to use 'to listen' or 'to hear' for words to have any meaning. This is not elitist at all. It only has connotations of elitism if you attach such a thing to the verb, 'to read'.

That's the stupidest thing here - the idea that reading, as a method of consuming information conveyed through a specific medium, is superior to others, and you are assuming it by making 'read' mean something more than a method of consuming information.

Trivial argument, badly thought-out post.
