Austin Police Department releases bodycam video of deadly January shooting

I can understand questioning the actions of the off duty officer. That's completely reasonable. I'm not touching that as I'm assuming there's more to investigate that isn't public and I'll wait to see how it plays out. Garza had made it clear truth actions that he'll indict and charge police if he thinks he can.

What is completely irrational is expecting anything less than what the on duty responding officers did. They gave commands in English and Spanish. They were completely understandable in their body camera, and considering that the off duty officer's 911 call could be easily overheard from the witness in the apartment, it's completely irrational to think their shouted commands would've been unheard. Guy got walked around to the rear of the car (they have no way of knowing what is there, child, gun, whatever). Then opens the door, still give more commands as he reaches in, then finally shot... there's just no getting around it. They gave every chance and did everything reasonably possible to avoid shooting.

Even if you go with distrust of the first guy, they showed up in a marked vehicle, with red and blue lights and and visible in cell phone video, in uniforms, and it was only after the actual uniformed officers arrived that he completely stopped being compliant. Up till then he'd stayed out of the vehicle, kept his hands up for the most part, and put or left the gun in the vehicle. The only points I've seen about non-compliance revolve around not trusting the off duty officer, but there's no reasonable explanation for why he would generally obey those commands, but not the commands of obvious actual officers.
