Australia to add 3.6GW of new solar and wind to grid in 2020

So tax payers spend billions on a solar farm that basically no one gets the benefit of?! Solar farms barely power anything. The Royalla solar farm is 50 hectares (500,000 m2) which is over half the size of Canberra and powers less than 4% of Canberra. It's 20mW so the land needed for a 3.6GW solar farm is insane. The majura solar farm is 5% the size of Royalla, powers 250 homes and cost $3 million dollars. So Royalla was approximately $60 million. Everyone in Canberra pays more for their electricity because of the solar farms. I'm all for solutions to climate change but the amount of mining and land needed to build giant solar farms kinda contradicts the benefits. Also, wind turbines use SF6, a greenhouse gas that's worse than CO2 and they also kill loads of native birds. Again, contradicting the so called benefits. We need to be investing these millions into being the first country to research a new and actually efficient energy replacement or at the very least, massively increasing the efficiency of solar power. What we currently have is unaffordable and far from efficient. We shouldn't settle for current renewables, we can do better and we should be putting money into that research.
