Australia Is Responsible for Manus Island Refugees, U.N. Says

Well there is an alternative though - regional economic and security councils. Regions that share similar common view and ideas.

The problem that haunts the UN is that opening itself up as a platform for everybody makes it impossible to reach agreement. This is the very reason why the League of Nations failed to prevent WW2. What is left for the UN then is arguing for points of universal interest - human rights, hunger, poverty, etc. Goals that are practically impossible to reach in the current political environment.

The issue isn't about sovereignty, but establishing localised regions that share similar ideas and goals. Look at NATO and the perceived threat of Communism, or ASEAN and their localised economy. APEC, and East Asia Summit.

These local councils are a far better platform for discussing these kinds of issues as it pertains directly to the nations involved. We would have a better outcome when discussing these issues within these communities rather than listening to the UN's rhetoric.

My 2c anyway.
