Adam Goodes is not white, acted in a non white fashion overtly on the ground during the Indigenous round by doing a traditional Aboriginal dance on the ground after scoring a goal. Racists became unhappy- their feelings were hurt that he "threw" an imaginary spear at the crowd and were generally "not warned" (as per comments by Eddie Macguire) that there would be any non white person conforming behaviour during an AFL round celebrating the contribution of Indigenous players.
Prior to this he had a fan who racially abused him during play ejected from the ground. Fan turned out to be 13 years old, Goodes agreed not to have her banned for future games. 13 year old maintained she did nothing wrong, and it is fine to call a black person an "ape". Family of 13 year old very supportive of her in her racial vilification of a twice brownlow medalist and all round great guy who has done much for Indigenous affairs.
Everyone thought these issues were resolved but then crowds of crazy racists started booing Goodes for any action on the ground. Booing became so noticable that people started commenting on it. A bunch of commentators (Adam Bolt, Alan Jones, that guy on The Project whose role seems to be to make comments along the lines of "you young whipper snappers get off my lawn") started publicly saying that Goodes needed to stop sooking, that he brought it upon himself, that he was being precious, that he shouldn't be flaunting his non whiteness because think of the children or something. Long story short- racists with media clout claim there is nothing racist about incessantly booing an Indigenous person.
Then the mother of the 13 year old made a bunch of public statements about how Adam Goodes needed to apologise publicly to her beloved teenage racist in order to make the crowds stop booing. 13 year old was scarred from the realisation that she couldn't racially vilify people without impunity in this country! Free speech! Constitution! My understanding of the Australian legal system comes from American TV shows! Amendments!
AFL strangely silent on issues, may have now said "it's maybe kinda racist idk", whatever they've said lately, its a bit shit because they said nothing for ages.
Adam Goodes says that the racist booing is impacting upon the game and the players and his racial vilification is a big deal that is detracting from the season- is now saying that he may retire effective immediately- in any event he's not playing this round.
Tone, our Beloved Leader, came out today and said that Adam Goodes deserves "respect". AND THAT is where we are up to so far.
