Australian parliamentary committee: "Loot boxes provide games companies with an unregulated way of exploiting gambling disorders"

Where is your empathy?

If no one is being influenced to spend their money, than fine...

... But gaming companies deliberately aren't trying to appeal to broad audiences with these tactics; they're trying to take advantage of people specifically prone to gambling, a market that is also underage with brains still developing. They're hiring the same people that casinos do to help design games. They're literally preying on vulnerable people and yes, in that case, the government should step in to protect them.

It's no different than restricting Alcohol and tobacco to over 18+ and I wouldn't have a problem with lootboxes if the games were 18+. The law is just catching up.

Look at it like it's cola. Cola a family friendly beverage made by EA. A few years later EA is releases Cola+RUM... suddenly not family friendly anymore

What EA has done is made an R18+ game, albeit inadvertently, but they have. Now a sensible solution needs to be found.
