Australian Public Accidentally Elects Person Who Represents Them

I didn't mean to start this chain. I am of the personal opinion that immigration rates have to be kept at a level so that there is a stable local population for successful integration (my mother was an immigrant and her family have integrated amazingly well.

I am personally in favour of larger families and I commend Senator Muir. At a rate of 2.1 children per couple, our pension system is unsustainable, this is problematic. Personally I am from a large family and all of us bar the youngest who is still in university have 2 university degrees and white collar jobs. But we do believe in a fair go and paying our taxes as well as a socialised health care system and welfare.

When I was a child I asked my dad about taxes and dole bludgers. He was a partner in a major firm and billed a million dollars a year in fees back in the '90s. He said that most aren't bludgers and its the right thing to do.

That being said, when my mother died he could receive no entitlements or benefits from the government. He had to either quit his job to look after us and take a lower paying job, or never see us. Under the new system he would receive benefits. So there have been changes and that costs tax payers more. I'm rambling, but he was annoyed that 46% of his income was dissapearing in taxes and he didn't get any help.

My grandfather as I've often said here, was the youngest headmaster in NSW and was a history, English and Geography teacher. He is of the opinion that our population should easily double and is sustainable. But we need jobs outside of the major cities, he lives North of Sydney and there are no jobs for the kids. The commute to Sydney costs money and this disadvantages them. Then again he only had two kids and only my father had kids so the family only just achieved the 2.1 kids.

Bleh. Xenaphon has some good points Pokies etc. He has also said and done some stuff that I find reprehensible as well. I like Muir's background and I hope that positively influences his time in parliament. He's always come across to me as being very human and I like that. I am sick of bullshit and I think we could do with more like Senator Muir, he hasn't said anything outrageous like Senator Lambie and others, and I respect him for that. He seems humble. Then again I could be completely wrong.
