Personally, I think the bigger issue for me is bad profiles rather than just looks.

Above average guys tend to have more pics, those pics tend to have better lighting and usually there's at least a couple full body pics. They also tend to be well groomed in their pics. Admittedly, in my experience they don't always bother filling out information like a bio, but I've still swiped right based on just looks when I'm looking for casual sex.

Average and below average guys in my experience usually have bad pics. Mostly taken in their house, dimly lit, mix of old pics and new pics so you don't know which version of the guy you're getting, usually no full body pics, and a small number of pics - sometimes just one pic. They also tend to look a bit disheveled and not well groomed in the pics.

I'm way more likely to swipe on you for casual sex if I feel like I know what you look like based on your profile, and if you look put together and hygienic in your profile. Brightly lit pics are great, gives off a positive vibe, and shows confidence.

Overall, I've hooked up with 5 guys that were above average, 9 that were average, and 3 that were below average.
