Avid Gamers , what are the things newcomers should look out for when purchasing games?

My list.

  1. How long is the game out?

Usually games go for a LOT cheaper after a year or so and usually come as a game of the year edition/complete editions which include all the add-on content (which usually costs extra) so you can get full games worth €150 + at about €20 - €60

  1. What type of game are you buying.

Games are sometimes sold as multiplayer services, which require online passes/ subscriptions to get the most out of em some are just stories that play out and end, some are open world expanses just to explore. There is a lot of choice out there, don't be afraid to be picky.

  1. Check the sales

Seriously, game prices fluctuate like nobodies business. Also don't be afraid of buying digitally as it's how you usually get the best deals.

  1. Most importantly: know your rights and protect yourself and be aware.

Consumer protection sucks on most systems. If your account is highjacked it's hard a lot of the time to recover your money if you'd had a credit card linked, refunds are also rarely given out digitally on most storefronts so make sure you want it before you buy it.

Buying an online subscription service like Xbox live or PSN and pay for it with a card? You'll auto enable re subscription and they'll direct debit the money. (you can delete the card information from your account or cancel the subscription auto renewal)

Have kids? Never save your card info on your storefront. Nightmare stories crop up constantly about how kids spend €1000 plus on games like fortnight because there folks had the card linked

You can work around not using your card on these stories by going into physical retailers and asking em if they do gift card. Most places do.

And most importantly. Enable 2 step verification. It is a god damn life saver
