Is it awkward for heterosexual male friends to share a bed?

I'll chime in and give my Italian point of view (disclaimer: I'm 21 years old).

In my experience, sharing a bed with a friend of yours is common. It isn't even something that you try to avoid: when looking for hotel rooms, AirBnBs or rental homes to stay at I don't really check wheter they have single beds or king size.

The general rules are not to invade your bedfellow's space, not to rob his part of the bedsheets or his pillow, and to wear underwear at the bare minimum.

I'll admit that I am probably on the liberal end of the spectrum when it comes to this issue or similar ones, but generally speaking sharing the bed is the norm. If anything, you will get shamed for refusing to do it, that's when the homophobic remarks might pop up.
