I agree with what you said though I think the problem is 'not reading non verbal cues', 'should be responsible for reading non verbal cues' and saw on twitter 'fuck men who don't read non verbal cues' that is the basis of a lot of the talk regarding this issue. If you know about the story and know what Grace said then yes, but when you see a bunch of people having a go at people who don't read non verbal cues then it feels like the are attacking people who can't read them. Then the reply to that is to take it in context, but the thing about us on the spectrum is that we are very prone to taking things out of context.

It's not the first time that taking actions to protect one disadvantaged group has, as a side affect, made people with ASD feel incredibly uncomfortable. Last year we had the case where Oxford university telling its students that avoiding eye contact can be subtly racist and then was forced to apologise because they hadn't thought about the impact of those with disabilities.
