"baby, your grades are so low your parents are disappointed"

. She went for the weekend and then decided to just come home.

She started working at the local gas station and then had a few kids by 21 and got ditched.

She told me when she decided to go home. She just decided she didn't want to do it and no one could change her mind.

a lot of the best students in the High School I went to either dropped out of college or flunked out. It's like they were on their own for the first time in their lives and went bonkers.

I barely made it out of high school; I had the worst GPA for my year. I didn't go to college right off, and instead went to work. A few years later I went back to school, only, this time, I realized how valuable it was. I had to work full time, so I went to school part-time. I eventually graduated with a 3.8 GPA in Computer Science. I found that I liked school so much, that I continued on for a Masters in Computer Science as well. Now I'm doing second masters, this time in Cybersecurity.

If you asked me in high school what my career path was going to be, I would have told you that I wanted to buy a Harley Davidson and sell crystal meth. I didn't have any desire to do more school, and it wasn't until I was working that I saw that my lack of education was limiting some of my options in life. I think when you learn to put a value on your own education, it becomes important to you, vs just trying to keep out of trouble with your parents.

BTW, I agree with the statement that education isn't for everyone and there are a lot of people who don't go to college that are very successful; but I personally viewed higher education as a way to change my own circumstances, hence the value I personally put on it. My path may not be for everyone and I have a great respect for those who choose a different direction.
