Is it a bad idea to adopt a pair of cats I have never met?

I don't think it's a bad idea. And although this may sound strange, but given that you are a first time pet owner, it might actually be a pro that they come in a pair rather than just one. Kittens need a lot of care and attention. They have a TON of energy and are definitely a handful. Which is why having two means they can play together when you are not available, and can make the transition to a new home easier because they have each other's support. You know that medical phenomenon where if a baby is sick or weak, having it sleep next to its twin sibling can actually bring it's vitals back to a healthy level? Anyway I'm rambling. As long as you are honest with yourself and know that you have the time and energy to play with them for AT LEAST thirty minutes per day+the financial security to buy them food (kittens eat a lot) and to have access to veterinarian care, adopting two kittens isn't a bad idea. But I would still recommend looking into adopting an adult cat just because they're not adopted as often as kittens are and they are much more mellow and just as sweet if not more so. Good luck!
