Is it a bad idea to buy a Villa for a new expat (3 months after moving to Stockholm from USA) ?

then Sweden is the best choice, family is prio number one in Sweden (even more than Germany I would say) and above EVERYTHING else. Everyone takes it for granted that if needed you will leave work to take care of your kids at any time of the day and is totally respected as well. Also, if you need to stay at home to take care of a sick child you are paid by the day's salary by the state ( I think it's 80% but I am not sure could be higher).

Families spending time together is encouraged as well this is why schools close during the school period so families can go travel together. I had colleagues with kids who where taking time off to go travel with their kids last February. If you have plans to have more kids then you and your wife will have I think a total paid leave of 16 months to take care of your kids. As you already know, education, kindergarten and health and covered by taxes. Don't know if that covers your answer if you need anything else let me know.
