It baffles me

Housing market has been going up 14-30% a year in most Canadian markets which is absolutely insane, the average detached home is over a million dollar in most population centres and up to 2 in major cities like Toronto or Montreal when high paying jobs are.

Canada has very quickly become a country of haves and have nots around home ownership because of lack of regulations on development and foreign investment, as well as zoning laws designed for a less centralized and lower population in the 60s for most part. A grossly high proportion of Canada’s politicians within our two major parties are landlords so fixing the problem runs counter to their individual best interest so Canadians are fucked and housing will continue to be a luxary stock for the worlds rich. (Canada also has a don’t ask don’t tell policy with foreign money so Canada’s real estate also doubles as a money laundering business for the world richest black money operations).

TLDR: real estate is corrupt and rotten in Canada and it’s depressing for working professionals or labourers to try and buy a house, with rent quickly rising because no one can afford to own.
