Banksy's "Girl with Balloon" shreds itself after being sold for over £1M at the Sotheby's in London.

idk, there are ways around it. but moreso i'd love to rig an entire exhibition of different objects/locations/lighting levels/proximity to staff and monitor the likelihood of each being touched, then museums and galleries could use the data to better lay out shows and protect fragile works - cause we try, some things you barrier off, put under perspex, station a guard near, not hang at child-height, but there's always something you never thought for a second people would think to touch, and then you find a bit snapped off and hidden and you gotta be like 'sorry, artist/loaning institution we wanted to share this work with our community but now it's broken cause people can't be trusted. sorry, people wanting to hold events here and activate the space, people can't be trusted. sorry causal visitor just wanting to have a quiet wander around the gallery, now there's an invigilator tailing you because you looked a little bit too close at something and you weren't actually going to touch anything but people can't be trusted.' and it ruins it for everyone. i just wanna know why. why that work in particular, or how many others get felt up and we don't even know.
