Some background:
The OP posted that him (liberal) and his dad (republican) had been in many arguments and fights about politics in the past. That day, he had successfully tried to open dialogue up with his father about the recent decision on the Paris Climate Summit. So he posted: to him, family comes before political disagreements. Political views can be changed, so maybe try to have a discussion with your family before tossing them aside.
90% of the commenters stormed in saying, "disagree! My dad voted for Trump, therefore he CLEARLY wants me dead and I'm cutting him out of my life as soon as I move out!!" And, "nah if a family member watches Fox News they are a lost cause and you should move on". "Trump is evil and anyone who supports him is evil, including family!!1!"
Now, there were some people who had examples of why they disconnected from family members because their dad told them that women truly are inferior to men and that getting sexually assaulted is somehow proof that women will always be inferior etc. Most people did not have stories like that. Most were overreactions (in my opinion).
So my comment was in response to someone saying something along the lines of, it's crazy how so many people are advocating for cutting of family members just because they voted for Trump instead of having an open dialogue with their family members, you people should feel ashamed.
So PSA for everyone, don't say stupid things or you'll be emulating Trump
