"Barbie Top" Drama

I don't know how to feel about this to be honest. This is the top in question. This is what Gertie had to say:

"Micheline made a video pointing out that I placed an order from her website including a striped top, which is true. I ordered mock tutleneck knit samples from a few companies to look at the ready to wear sewing and see how home sewers would interpret the construction of a basic mock turtleneck top. To be honest, I felt that I could improve upon aspects of the construction and fit of the Vixen top, so I did nothing with it other than take a cursory look. I developed my own pattern from scratch (as I always do)... I do regret that the styling on one particular photo (the casual one taken at my sewing machine, not the official pattern photos) ended up feeling derivative of Vixen's "bad girl" aesthetic, but I would never steal someone's pattern..."

I don't think that Gertie has stolen anything here, and I don't think she was wrong for buying the top to have a look at. I don't think it's fair to say that she's stolen the idea, nor do I think it's fair to say that she based her drafting on that specific top because it's such a basic top that I very much doubt it.

BUT to buy the top, draft a similar pattern, make the pattern up in basically the same fabric, take photos and stick them on social media? I don't think that was an accident.
