I try to not judge people for statements like this. I don’t think Obama thinks there are 57 states, I understand that moments like this happen.

It also is a stupid distraction from what matters. Opponents of the nomination don’t think she’s stupid, they think she has an extremist legal philosophy which will have bad outcomes in real people’s lives for generations regardless of what the public actually wants (not just abortion, but the governments ability to legislate about healthcare, climate change, voting rights, etc.). In theory justices are fair and not political; unfortunately that’s not the world we live in.

Making a big deal about stupid mistakes “both sides” make missed the point.
