I set up multiple camps in key areas of maps that I'm focusing on. Right now I'm based in Coastal Highway so I have the bulk of my gear in the Quonset garage. I also have fire and cooking supplies in the cabin at the southern most point of the map that leads in Crumbling Highway and also on the large house in the center of the lake. No matter where I'm looking to forage for supplies/food on this map I have health, food and fire supplies nearby so I never have to go far to rest and heal and never have to carry loads of supplies weighing me down. It doesn't take long to set up multiple outposts just need to set a plan and stick to it. I've also set up a small camp in the mine that leads to Desolation point so getting to the forge whenever I want is comfy rather than desperate.
