BBC: ‘we get climate change coverage wrong too often’ - A briefing note sent to all staff warns them to be aware of false balance, stating: “You do not need a ‘denier’ to balance the debate.”

healthy debate regarding fascism or climate change would be to start in good faith with something that is already known to be true, and does not need to be debated anymore. for example, we know climate change is happening and is almost certainly caused by man-made emissions. Debate then happens about what we don't know, like how best to address it.

Giving a platform to bad faith conspiracy theorists, racists, and other charlatans just empowers more of the nuts who already believe them, when de-platforming them is much more effective. Think about /r/history and their strict policy of banning holocaust deniers. Their reasoning is simple: holocaust deniers are not "just asking questions", they're purposely trying to pollute the discourse and recruit more fascists to their weird online group.
