In a lot of cases the nicotine testing (and the weed, etc testing too) is basically for their insurance costs rather than pure safety. Medical facilities are big on nicotine testing for one because they’re medical so they don’t want to condone it, but mostly because their insurance plans are massively more affordable the fewer smokers there are. I think even some unions have argued for nicotine testing in their insurance negotiations but don’t quote me on that (I can’t cite it off hand, and now that I think of it, it may have just been that they accepted nicotine testing rather than argued for it).

Anyway, I find that even more irritating, invasive, and belittling than traditional justifications for drug testing. It’s dystopian IMO.
